Uninstalling Limewire

What is Limewire?
Almost anybody that has ever used a computer knows at least a little bit about file sharing software, or at the very minimum has at least heard of this type of software. One such program is the Limewire software, which was used by a significant number of file sharers when the software was first introduced, mostly for the purpose of downloading music. Limewire, specifically, is referred to as a peer-to-peer file sharing network. Using Limewire requires installing a software program, which requires the support of Java, and can be installed on computers running on both Windows and Mac operating systems, as well as those running on Linux operating systems. With Limewire installed users can download video, audio, and game files onto their computers, which can then be burned to disc for external use. But while this all seems great, and like Limewire offers users a desired service, there are many criticisms about the software itself. In particular, the version of the Limewire for Mac software offered for free has experienced significant criticism, as it has been known to have spyware attached to it. Spyware can cause a user multiple problems as a result of attacks, ranging in seriousness from minimally dangerous to extremely dangerous, in which case your personal information and security could be at risk. This is why so many Mac users want to uninstall the Limewire Mac software soon after they download it, either because they are experiencing problems caused by an attack, or they are worried that they will if they keep the program installed on their system. The problem is, while uninstalling Limewire may be fairly simple, it is not so simple to remove other components attached to the software, such as adware, spyware, or other malicious software. But if you follow a few simple steps you can remove Limewire from your Mac, as well as the any other malicious software that may have been installed at the same time that Limewire was downloaded.
Uninstalling Limewire
Removing Limewire itself is as easy as simple as going to the Control Panel and removing the software through the Add/Remove Programs option, or a similar option in regards to Macs. A simple click and you can be rid of Limewire that quick. The problem is, this does not remove those pesky malicious software programs, so you will have to find another method for doing this. There are actually two options, which include removing those files manually or removing them with a removal tool and/or registry cleaner. For manual removal you will have to remove all of the files located under the Limewire file individually. With a removal tool or a registry cleaner, though, you can simply pop in the disc or download the software and be rid of all of those extra programs installed on your computer with Limewire. After being rid of the Limewire software, and any pesky software programs that may have come with it, it may be beneficial to both download anti-virus or anti-spyware software, and avoid such free peer-to-peer sharing software in the future, as most will come with adware at the very least when you download them.
