Uninstalling Limewire
Saturday, December 10th, 2011What is Limewire?
Almost anybody that has ever used a computer knows at least a little bit about file sharing software, or at the very minimum has at least heard of this type of software. One such program is the Limewire software, which was used by a significant number of file sharers when the software was first introduced, mostly for the purpose of downloading music. Limewire, specifically, is referred to as a peer-to-peer file sharing network. Using Limewire requires installing a software program, which requires the support of Java, and can be installed on computers running on both Windows and Mac operating systems, as well as those running on Linux operating systems. With Limewire installed users can download video, audio, and game files onto their computers, which can then be burned to disc for external use. But while this all seems great, and like Limewire offers users a desired service, there are many criticisms about the software itself. In particular, the version of the Limewire for Mac software offered for free has experienced significant criticism, as it has been known to have spyware attached to it. Spyware can cause a user multiple problems as a result of attacks, ranging in seriousness from minimally dangerous to extremely dangerous, in which case your personal information and security could be at risk. This is why so many Mac users want to uninstall the Limewire Mac software soon after they download it, either because they are experiencing problems caused by an attack, or they are worried that they will if they keep the program installed on their system. The problem is, while uninstalling Limewire may be fairly simple, it is not so simple to remove other components attached to the software, such as adware, spyware, or other malicious software. But if you follow a few simple steps you can remove Limewire from your Mac, as well as the any other malicious software that may have been installed at the same time that Limewire was downloaded.
